i. Before setting up LPR, printer drivers are required to be installed first. Make sure the Print Server has an IP address and you are able to ping the Print Server. In this example, the Print Server has a static IP Address assigned of 192.168.1.54.
ii. Make sure that your firewall is temporarily turned off.

Step 1:
Click Start and choose Control Panel.

Step 2:Select Programs and Features.

Step 3:Select Turn Windows features on or off from the menu on the left.

Step 4:In the Windows Features on or off window that appears, click on the + sign in front of Print and Document Services and check the boxes for LPD Print Service and LPR Port Monitor. Click OK.

NOTE:  Compared to Windows Vista, Windows 7 will automatically generate the programs .
 

Adding a Printer

Step 1:
Click Start and choose Control Panel.

Step 2:Click Devices and Printers.

Step 3:Click on Add a printer in the menu bar.

Step 4:
Click on Add a local printer.

Step 5:
Select Create a new port. Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the drop-down menu and click Next.

Step 6:You will then be prompted to input the IP address of the Print Server twice.

Step 7:When it asks to choose a printer driver for this printer, use the driver information from the previous step. Select the Manufacturer and the Printer and click Next.

Step 8:Enter a printer name that you would like to use and click Next.

Step 9:
Click Finish to complete this part of the setup.

NOTE:  If the printer that you have setup does not allow double-sided printing, you have completed the process.  Otherwise, continue to allow double-sided printing.
